Firenze
Melaleuca
Bakery + Bistro

The best breakfast bar none.

I am dreaming of The Full Aussie -- that is the best breakfast I know and it is only found at marvelous Melaleuca in Firenze.  I know my kids miss it, too.  On Saturday or Sunday mornings we would roll out of bed and do our best to run down steep, grassy/cobblestone-y -- and in the rain -- slippery Via dell'Erta Canina in Firenze to hop across the Arno from San Niccolo (Ponte Delle Grazie) and wait for a cheerful table at Melaleuca.  Owned by an Australian and Italian dynamic duo, Melaleuca has bright, fresh and modern brunch flavors and a simply sunny atmosphere that is unmatched on the Firenze breakfast scene.  It is a weekend must-go for Italians and expats alike, with the charming owners ingratiating themselves to the local scene through their hard work and killer cinnamon rolls, bagels, Guiness stout cake, homemade tea infusions, and East meets West breakfasts combinations like two poached eggs on thick homemade toast, with grilled spinach and tomatoes, bacon smoked in-house, sausage and avocado sprinkled with Tzatziki.  Yes, their bacon is delicious and yes, they know how to use an avocado to its maximum potential.  Needless to say, we Californians were thrilled to find Melaleuca.  Plus, they make delicious pumpkin bread and pies and other traditional fixings for their American clientelle to take away at Thanksgiving...
